Sundowning

frightfalls:

a one-shot, written in the space of an hour, that got WAY out of hand. maaaaaajor warnings for vivid descriptions of PTSD and other forms of trauma. i don’t know why i’m going so emotional with frightfalls lately, folks, hopefully i’ll have some feel-good fluff to offer you soon enough.

Lucas woke up, as he always did, around noon, and tried—as he always did—to go back to sleep until dusk. And, as always, he couldn’t. In spite of himself, he scowled at the long-haired beauties dozing peacefully at his feet, hating the contented little smiles on their young faces.

He hated, too, the shafts of sunlight that filtered in through the rotted cabin door, the overbearing and assaulting brightness that made his every muscle lock up. He hated watching the sunbeams, like hot little fingers, creep all over his bed, touching the girls’ taut skin. He hated how the sun made him feel like a corpse at his own funeral.

Daylight really brought out the worst in him.

Faeries?

Neither of us has ever encountered any faeries.

But for some reason…

…I doubt they’re all that evil.

so roughly how canon are user w's fanfics about angel and edie? sundowning gives an idea about what lucas and the "sisters" live like but what's your take on w's take?
Anonymous

"special" and "family" are canon!

"sundowning" can stand apart from the angel and edie stories but i’ll admit i used w’s fics as a springboard when i was writing it.

Livin’ amongst the green is mighty fine
Young enough to know we’ll never die
Here we like to watch the concrete creep
Here we spit the wind, yes, here we play for keeps

juuuuuust a dumb idea for a gravvy falls AU where twentysomethings dipper and mabel have a portland-based twee/folk-pop act and jockey for stage space with gideon’s terrifying southern child ballads and pacifica northwest’s pseudo-ironic bubblegum revival band
mabel is also part of candy and grenda’s deerhoof-esque noise collective and she has a banjolele because why the entire heck not
(song related because skittish is one of my sister’s favorite bands and they’re what i imagine these two sounding like)

here’s a better look at lyread (rhymes with “myriad”), the fairy featured in the latest mailroom post:

her appearance is based on bindi, the main character of lynne reid banks’ the fairy rebel, as she appears on this cover illustration:

kind of funny since she’s the only non-fairy on the cover!

i have very fond memories of listening to the fairy rebel on cassette (that makes me sound older than i actually am) with my older sister on long car rides. it’s about a fairy named tiki who, against strict orders from the fairy queen, uses her magic on a human couple to give them the daughter they never had.

since i found a paperback copy of it in the thrift store where i work—albeit with a WAY more metal cover—i’ve been thinking back to it fondly. it was just serendipity that i had an ask about fairies in my inbox!

hah, just a dopey little programming note. i thought it was interesting enough to warrant another fissure in the fourth wall!
